Look for the carpet bug larvae. If you notice bed bug like red spots and discover that you have carpet beetles but not bed bugs then they may be the cause. Bed bugs in carpet are most common in areas behind beds and sofas. Bed bugs can hide in the crevices between the carpet and the wall or baseboard as well as underneath the carpet.

Varied carpet beetles do have brown on their backs but they look more spotted or striped with white and light colored patches mixed with brown. These are newly hatched carpet bugs that will be around 1 8 of an inch long and covered in coarse hairs almost like a caterpillar. The main difference is the color.

Bed bugs leave signs like red or dark stains on sheets. In the night bed bugs can leave their hiding places in the carpet crawl up bed stands and feed on their hosts. Also knowing you have a bug problem can cause you to feel like there are things on you even when there aren t. Bed bug larvae look like little worms while carpet beetle larvae look like fuzzy bugs with little spines all over them.

This is because most people are allergic to bed bugs but allergies to carpet beetles are rarer.
